It's not always easy to come up with something to draw or paint that resonates with me. I think that's true for everyone in every creative field. #Creativity is something that's either flowing or it's not. So, what do you do to get inspired?
Me, personally? I create anyway. I may not be that *into* it, it may not be my best work, but it's going to lead me to somewhere great. Why? Because practice always does that, no matter what. I may not feel as though I'm especially connected to that particular piece of art, but I'm definitely going to learn something from it. Whatever I learn from it, I'll carry into my next piece, which might be something I'm over-the-moon passionate about.
I'll be the first to admit that it's hard to *make* yourself do something you're not really all that #inspired to do. One way that I try to put myself in a #creative mindset is by listening to music. A song can often set the tone for an entire piece, for me. For instance, my painting "Happy" is named for the song that inspired it, by Pharrell Williams. "Bluebird Blues" was inspired by the song "Riders on the Storm." Music drives a LOT of my work.
Another thing that I like to do to get in a creative zone is to go for a walk. Just being out in the fresh air, away from everything, observing nature and weather and people can really help to stir up feelings and ideas, not to mention that just the act of walking relieves stress. It helps shake of some of the residue of the day so that the creative mind can open up and get focused.
No matter what tricks you use to try to shake up your creativity, you can't wait for #inspiration to strike or you might never create. Create anyway, and inspiration will creep its way in, eventually. In the mean time, you're learning and growing and perfecting your craft. So, keep learning . . . and keep creating!
